Zombies, Kafka, and sex! Oh, my!
After a long delay due to some technical issues, MetaMorphosis #3 has finally arrived on comiXology. Our horny sociopath Greta has figured out a way to keep her brother Gregor well-fed, but she can see that a lifetime caring for a zombie makes for a pretty bleak future. « Read the rest of this entry »

Manalo brings a sober dose of contemporary personal truth to MetaMorphosis that elevates the work from a basic homage and cuts through the surrealism of the protagonist, US Army veteran Gregor Samsa, waking up one day as a zombie, driven to feed on the flesh of the living…
It’s a good piece of criticism, especially if you take zombies seriously (and who doesn’t after The Walking Dead?) and I’m not just saying that because he mentions MetaMorphosis. I’m really humbled that my rough-hewn comic should be given such thoughtful attention.
Zedric, if you’re reading this, thank you! Please contact me through my “about” page, and I’ll send you the next two issues.

MetaMorphosis #2 came out this week!
I didn’t know that it was coming out this week, or I probably would’ve made more of an effort to promote it. I guess ComiXology no longer tells Submit creators that their books are coming out, but, hey, they’ve got a lot of titles to keep track of.
I just handed in the latest draft of the screenplay adaptation, and my hands are sore from typing. No more words! Look at my pictures! Tell you friends!

Comic books have a long history of acting as parables and/or allegories to teach lessons or talk to us about the world we live in.MetaMorphosis, which debuted this week on ComiXology Submit, is an attempt at this tradition giving us a veiled tale about our current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan…
He calls it a “interesting and fun read,” and that “It’s clear Manalo has a great grasp of storytelling.” If you want to know the critical parts of the review, you have to read it for yourself, because I won’t tell you.

MetaMorphosis #1 is now for sale on ComiXology! Get your digital copy now for only 99 cents! (If we are related in any way, you had better buy this.)
When a young war veteran wakes up one morning transformed into a zombie, his teenage sister begins luring men into their house for him to eat! With dark humor, a dash of politics, and an expressive, minimalist style, MetaMorphosis is an indie horror comic with something to say.
I’ve optioned this comic for a film adaptation, and I’m currently working on rewrites of the script. Read my original story here!

I use an “F” pencil, which is pretty light, so I darkened it a little in iPhoto. This sketch shows that very often I wish I could draw like Sam Kieth.

I just finished the inking on my horror comic MetaMorphosis #2! I make no secret about my mediocre illustration skills, but I have to say that my art’s been getting better. And issue #2 features more gore! more sex! and more… politics.
Catch up with the web version here, and the digital version of issue #1 is forthcoming via Comixology!
