Miyazaki’s Swan Song

November 19, 2013 § Leave a comment

The Wind Rises is the latest and probably last feature film directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the director classics such as Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.  Studio Ghibli announced the director’s retirement in September.  From the trailer below, it looks like he’s going out on a high note.

It’s kind of a weird topic for a film, especially for American audiences, but The Wind Rises is a fictionalized biography of Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the infamous Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter – you know, the ones flown by the pilots that killed all those folks at Pearl Harbor.
