Ecoterrorism Is In

June 5, 2013 § Leave a comment

Last weekend’s opening of The East officially starts the next wave of ecoterrorism films!

The next film in this cycle is Kelly Reichardt’s Night Moves starring Jesse Eisenberg and Dakota Fanning.  Scheduled for a September release Night Moves already has a bit of a copyright dispute with Edward R. Pressman, who’s been developing a film adaptation of The Monkey Wrench Gang.

We haven’t seen this much ecoterrorism on screen since the late 1990s brought us Twelve Monkeys and On Deadly Ground.  There’s a touch of anarchism in the tone in the trailer above, and I suspect filmmakers are counting on some anti-corporation sentiment to gain some sympathy for their terrorist heroes.  Because, c’mon.  Ellen Page and Brit Marling may be cute, but they’re still terrorists.
